I also liked Prayer for Owen Meany too.
Can you believe it? John Irving was teaching an adult continuing education class on novel writing and I passed it up! ...one of the regrets of my life...
I 'm reading " The Speckled People " by Hugo Hamilton . It's a great book " magistral " ( in french ) which got reward in France by the " prix Femina étranger " in 2004.
It's an autobiographical novel . Hamilton relate his chilhood in the young irish Republic between an Irish father who speaks Irish Gaëlic (and bans English language in their home , all that is english ) and a German anti-nazi mother. It's a lovely , moving book, a book for our time, for all the times .

Right now ive just about disposed of Terry Pratchetts "THUD!" Hilarious book yet it raises a good point about racism (all be it dwarfs/trolls as opppsed to black/white) |
I love that book - along with the rest of the Discworld series. He makes some very pertinent points about various issues that affect us by using parallel situations but is completely hilarious with it.

Never thought one of my favourite characters would be Death!

| Life and Limb by Jamie Andrew. |
HI whitts m8
I am 2 currently reading "Life & Limb" by Jamie andrew
I Heard Jamie talk about his experiences in the french alps just before christmas last year
Not to be touched by his story your heart would have to be made of stone
This guy is inspirational
If you ever get the chance to hear him speak -- Take it
The thing which struck me was the fact that he had to learn to do all the things that able bodied people take for granted

Just finished reading this book...what an amazing bloke he is...his story is truly inspirational. This man has so much courage and determination....would really love to hear him talk about his experiences.
Just a Boy by Richard McCann..... a true story, the childrens mother was killed by the Yorkshire Ripper and Richard has written his own book about what happened that night and then what happened to him and his sisters as they grew up. There is another 2 books he has written as a follow up, so looking forward to reading them.
Well worth a read...
Chris Townsend - The Munros and Tops ...the story of Chris's walk to climb all the Munros and tops in 118 days covering more than 1700 miles and over 575,000 feet of ascent (the equivalent of climbing Everest 18 times

)
Just picked up a copy of "Munros and tops" by Chris Townsend from my local library
So I guess that is woy am gonna spent the next wee while reading
"A Pedagogic Poem" from the great russian pedagogue Anton Semjenowich Makarenko. I could read that book every year, it is fantastic!
