Well what can you say about the day, the bands were excellent although I must admit I agree with the majority, Aberfeldy were somewhat out of place. The rain you tended to forget about while the band were playing but you came back to reallity when they were changing the set. I didn't know my clothes could hold so much water!

The biggest gripes of the day has to the the drunks and the sad thing is they all seemed to be under age! Whether they were or weren't doesn't matter it is the amount of people who thought it was their right to push their way to the front regardless or just make general pests of them selves. At the risk of sounding like a killjoy drink should not be in these places. I was at Loch Lomond and the weather was better and there were drunks but they tended just to pass out and give the first aid people a headache.

Now the other is ROCK STEADY, who are these guys! During Runrig there were around half a dozen drunks near where I was causing unrest with everyone but ROCK STEADY wouldn't come past the barrier to sort them out. PITIFUL!

Well I did start for the car park early but we got stuck in the mud, MANY THANKS TO THE GUYS WHO GAVE US A PUSH, WITHOUT YOU WE MAY STILL BE THERE.

It's a shame that this organisation thinks, "give someone a yellow jacket and they become an event controller ?"

That may upset some genuine security people, but the control near us was laughable !! Nothing was done ! If security is there then they should do something about the idiots who were spoiling the day for everyone else.

If not, then what was the point of them standing there ??

Perhaps the rain and mud was a good thing ?

What would the drunk idiots have been like if it was a hot dry day ????????

Just my two peneth

The security guard beside us (to left of stage) was excellent. He was trying to control how many people got into the fenced off bit at the front. He even rescued me when I was in danger of being thumped by two large aggressive guys (Not locals)! He was a star!!! smile.gif

Saturday was fantastic, probably one of the best gigs that I have ever been to. We got there early and were down at the front for most of the gig (apart from a couple of occasions where we went looking for friends around the arena, and we saw Pete Wishard and -I think- Midge Ure).

Toridon (sp?) were great musically but the guy singing kind of annoyed me. The drum solo at the start of the Vatersay Boys set was fantastic, but I'm not really a big fan of them so the rest of the set didn't really live up to the start.

I enjoyed Aberfeldy, I agree that their music didn't fit in exactly with the others but they played well mostly (although the sound guys did forget to turn on at least one of the microphones for the singers, the same happened with the Vatersay Boys).

I have always liked Julie Fowlis' voice but I have never really listened to many of her songs because I can't speak a word of Gaelic but after seeing her on Saturday I am going to try and get as many of her CDs as I can because her voice is beautiful.

I had never heard anything by Great Big Sea before Saturday so I did not know what to expect at all. They were fantastic, the best of the support bands IMO. I still can't get the chorus from the Chemical Workers Song out of my head.

By the time that Wolfstone and the Chilli Pipers were on we didn't really care, and just wanted to see Runrig so I didn't really enjoy their sets as much. I thought they were good but I was just waiting for them to leave.

As for Runrig, they just keep getting better and better. Bruce and Malky were perfect (apart from a couple of wee mistakes which I think were probably down to nerves) and Bruce inparticular seemed perfectly at home in front of such a big crowd. Only negative point during the Runrig set for me was when Hurren was singing Something's Got To Give, he has a great voice and is a very skilled Keyboard player but I don't think that his voice is right for singing lead vocals on Runrig songs. The whole show was put together well for Runrig, especially the use of the screen at the back of the stage. Can't wait to see what it will look like on the DVD, and I would also love to see at least some of the support bands on the DVD also.

Non-musical Highlight of the day was when they showed to people walking along in the mud on the screens and one of them slipped, a little mean but it was funny.

I disagree, I think the Vatersay Boys are excellent. All songs was cool, refreshing but best of all catchy smile.gif

No the reason why they left the microphone to -*test*-('") the sound. Nowt bad when Runrig start and no sound is visiable!

Aberfeldy's music didn't fit in all all, the music may be good but its the wrong location. Dont think many liked or rather the whole crowd

I liked Brian Hurren's song, and whatever you say he has a fantastic voice.

I love Wolfstone, but I also found myself sort of wishing they would hurry and finish. This was for two reasons, I didn't particularly like their "new" sound, and I loved Ivan Drever as their lead singer and the other reason like Oh Betty said was, I too was just dying to get Runrig on stage. I spent most of the RHCP set queuing for the loo!! But it's not that we don't appreciate other music, it is just a case of desperation to see and hear Runrig! I wouldn't have stood in that field to see any of the support bands had RR not being playing. smile.gif

I love Wolfstone too but something was lacking on Saturday - I don't know if it was their new signer of if their stuff is all starting to sound very same-ish.

Hydertim- 08-23-2007
true, like me I was excited. But it was nice hearing wolfstone, great big sea, vatersay boys, RHCP. Some music for me to get biggrin.gif

I have never bought Julie Fowlis CDs before because I had only heard the odd song here and there on Isles FM and being a teenager didn't want to spend what little money I have on a CD that I wasn't sure if I was going to enjoy. However, after hearing more of her material on Saturday I have already bought one of her CDs and when I get payed I am going to buy some more.

I actually said that Brian Hurren has a great voice.

Hydertim- 08-23-2007
sorry, I think Brian in a few years could be a good singer smile.gif

I know it must be hard waiting for Runrig, but if Runrig wern't there til after 8, you have to deal with it.

Sorry again

A lot of good music and a lot of good suporting bands who did a great job keeping
the spirit up!! wink.gif

RUNRIG did a GREAT show and singing along with 17.000 other fans was fantastic! laugh.gif

Just hope the DVD will tell the thruth about the weather and how brave we fans are!!! We deserve it!

And thanks again to Bruce Wynne with the safing tractor!! Love from Mette! cool.gif

Although it seems as if I missed a great Runrig concert I’m glad I decided not to go there.
Sounds all like 'Disaster Area' to me (inspired by Douglas Adams…). wink.gif
I have been to many big outdoor gigs in different countries with heavy rain etc.
(with the right clothes no problem), but this one sounds really terrible to me. huh.gif

Thanx for all the reviews, photos & videos!!! smile.gif

CAPPSCUL- 08-23-2007
I felt quite cold and fed-up and grumpy on the day because of the constant rain but despite that I really enjoyed the music. I felt too cold to socialise or look for people that I knew, but I had a good view in the front barrier area at the side and enjoyed all the bands. My fingers were too numb to work my camera properly, or even get my sodden gloves on and off but a woman in the guest area helped me take some photos since she had an unobstructed view. I was shocked by all the mud at the end since I was standing on a barrier platform and had kept mud free. Our shoes needed soaking in a bucket when we got home. I could see how you could get disorientated and hyperthermic up a mountain with exposure because I couldn't be bothered to move to get anything to drink or eat.

I enjoyed Julie Fowlis, Great Big Sea and was impressed by Stuart of Wolfstone's singing as I hadn't seen Wolfstone for years. I really enjoyed Runrig and it's got me back into playing their albums. Now listening to "Landscape Poets".

However my husband is refusing to go to another gig. He said he's had enough of this sort of thing and stood at the back! I'm looking forwards to Blackburn. Hope he'll come with me!

What can I say that hasn't been said already!
It was a Great Day....well worth all the effort
to get there.

Reading most of the previous posts I think the
Rain was the biggest negative factor of the day.

I will leave with this passing thought for all those
who managed to get to Stirling Castle.

Can you amagine what Loch Ness would have been
like if we had that weather!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PURE MAGIC !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
