Ive said it (many times) before and I'll say it again...I still want Runrig to release a recording of Bruce singing North West Passage.

He did it a few times when he first joined and it is stunning.

Agree on that one. I seem to remember there was a year at the Tønder Festival where some other musicians (can't remember who) joined them on stage in that one - a real cracker for an AAA since Tønder obviously never seems to make it onto an official release ...

I heard a bootleg of the Northwest Passage and it was totally awful. Bruce was good, but someone was trying to harmonise and it sounded like a scabby cat getting thrown down a well full of acid. That recording should never be put forward to innocent people.

I've heard the Stan Rogers version, but when I heard Bruce and Rory it was SO amazing. I would love to hear that again on an AAA. After all 'The Water is Wide' isn't a Macdonald composition.

riglein- 10-21-2006
Neither is one of my all time favourites, 'Ic Iain 'ic Sheumais.
It's the Macdonald treatment that counts! cool.gif

I personally would welcome an AAA called 'Just Rory', with all the songs where Rory sings lead. Including all known versions of Recovery.
But that's a dream. I know. I'm sad! laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

(And I wouldn't say no to 'Just Malcolm' either! tongue.gif )

Ok, Ok, silly...
But better than angry. smile.gif

As much old school stuff as possible and MORE Loch Lomond footage?!!!

Joyce- 10-22-2006
I remember them doing NorthWest Passage on just one tour in close harmony and virtually unaccompanied. (?) It was absolutely fantastic! That would be great to have on an AAA disc.

They also did a fantastic "In Search of Angels" in close harmony to close some concerts and everyone left quietly and happily with the biggest soppiest grins on their faces!

That's half the fun of bootlegs, you get the absolutly amazing "live only" material that for some reason never quite made it to disc and then you get the downright awfull that is so bad that it is good!!! biggrin.gif That and then there are always the live out-takes that just remind you that geniouses are only human too. When you hear a mega-star have an off day that kinda makes the average bathroom singer feel good.

Anyway, back to The Northwest Passage and I aggree that (based on the recording I have heard - non acidic cat mix) it really should be one of these songs to get onto an AAA CD, afterall, this series is meant to be the official "Bootlegs".

realconon- 10-23-2006
smile.gif Rig, I agree with a "Just Rory" AAA. (With absolutely no disrespect to Bruce). Maybe a complete instrumental would be nice too although personally I prefer songs with words, after all I can't sing along with an instrumental! biggrin.gif

That would be it!

The 1982 single version of Loch Lomond and the 1984 single of Dance Called America, though not the version of Skye (that can be binned - it's awful!)

Old B-sides such as Lifeline, Hey Mandu (both Simple versions), The Times They Are A'changin, This Time Of Year 1989 version with Donnie's lead vocal, Morning Tide 1993 version, That Other Landscape...

Any demos from 97/98 (post Donnie, pre Bruce) and other demos from 1978 (with Blair in the 5-piece line-up).

Live stuff: Murrayfield 1987 supporting U2 (if a recording exists), Cambridge Folk Festival 1984, Loch Lomond 1991, any other stuff from Transmitting Live recordings, Bruce's 1st gig at Tonder 1998, more stuff from Stirling '03 and stuff from last year's Xmas gigs (such as the new version of "Only The Brave")

Liz Gordon- 10-31-2006
As you mention 'This time of year' I would like to hear Brian's version from last year's tour.

talking of binning the Simple version of Skye being binned, I think this version of Only The Brave should join it. It's just as bad. It really didn't sound like a RR song at all, way too over produced, too many synth effects, bad drum machine sequence and not enough of the band.
Why did RR ever think that they needed to use synth drums anyway when the have a perfectly "normal drummer" who is absolutly fantastic?
