Ah man I love that song. Shame they've split up now though. |
News to me!!! Tarja was the only one that left the band (or was thrown out depending on your point of view), they have a new lead singer and the first single from the new album will be coming out soon.
Nightwish are very much still on the go and from listening to clips of the recording sessions, the new album is going to be immense.
It will have a bit of a Celtic feel to it with at least one track featuring pipes and some of the orchestral stuff sounds rather celti at times.
I do remember Tuomas once said in an internet interview that he liked the Celtic cultures and once he saw a documentry that featured an old lady on a Scottish island who regularly went to the shore to play her violin to the seals. That became the inspiration for the song "The Siren".

This is just awesome, taken from his live acoustic album just released today that was recorded in 1971(36 years ago)

For me Tarja is a very good singer and her solo album is well worth listening to, particularly at Christmas time. However, Nightwish was not just about the lead singer, it was about the music and the lyrics.
I've said it before but Runrig and Nightwish are the only two bands who's music and lyrics have really touched me in a deep way and had an influance on the sort of person that I am today. To me, Nightwish are the performers of the music written by Tuomas Holopainen.
