Hi Essan !!!

Waw !!! Fantastic picture. Definitely a place I plan to go one day.

Amazing but British mountains are very.. exotic for somebody who lives in the Alps. wink.gif laugh.gif

Thank you for posting your picture.

Greetings from the Alps,

Lionel

Had a day trip to Anglesey yesterday - being birders we went to look for a rare vagrant from the US which has turned up at Red Wharf Bay (and yes, we did see it otherwise I'd be away sulking somewhere and wouldn't be sharing this! laugh.gif). It was a beautiful day: bright and sunny, a bit cold, but no wind. We walked about half a mile or so at the landward side of the saltmarsh to where the bird has taken up temporary residence and after having had several good but brief views of the bird over a couple of hours, we went to Beaumaris to find a celebratory lunch and play tourist. Beaumaris is a lovely little town with an ancient castle, overlooking the north-eastern end of the Menai Strait and across to Snowdonia. Not somewhere you would find by accident as it is off the main road but very well worth making a detour to visit. (I can recommend the Pier House Cafe!) I have put some of my photos here:

(Hope the link works!)

On the subject of litter on mountains - and at all beauty spots for that matter - if someone can take it out full, I fail to see why they cannot then carry it back empty - especially as it will proably screw up or squash! ph34r.gif mad.gif I recall several years ago when I climbed Croagh Patrick in Ireland (to see the view from the top which was in the cloud by the time I made it!!) being horrified by the trail of litter marking the final scramble to the summit. Someone had told me I'd have no trouble finding the way as all I had to do was follow the trail of Fanta cans ... I thought they were joking. sad.gif And this being Ireland's 'Holy Mountain' of pilgrimage, too. You'd think they'd show a little more respect!

Hi Puffin !!!

Thank you for sharing your beautiful pictures.

As I was hillwalking yesterday, I saw a "lagopède" (the rock ptarmigan or Lagopus mutus ), a bird which is quite rare in my area. I though you might be interested.

Hi Puffin, great photos of Anglesey - know it well. Also like Beaumaris. Have you done the boat trip from there to 'your' Island?? Probably one to save for summer...
Or walked to Penmon Point to see the old church (priory, I think) and amazing doocot? If not, do it on next visit!

On Sunday I climbed Meall Ghaordaidh, a munro near Killin in Perthshire. It was a brilliant cold bright day and the top had the first snow I've encountered this autumn. It was extremely cold in the wind so there wasn't much hanging about on the top - just time for a few quick photos, including this one which is looking towards the Tarmachan ridge and Ben Lawers range. I haven't been able to get out to the hills for a good few weeks so I was a really happy bunny yesterday! Got my fix for the week cool.gif

And we also saw ptarmigan really close up on the path in front of us and a few mountain hares which were half white. Brilliant!
Cheers
Sheila

Hi Rig
No, to both, I'm afraid! Although we've been to Anglesey several times we've never managed to get round to doing the "tourist" things as we only ever seem to have gone there for birds. South Stack is brilliant for the breeding seabirds on the cliffs in May and June, also Chough; Cemlyn Bay at the same time for the Terns. Having said that, most of our trips seem to have been in the winter months, when the days are too short to fit much in, especially as it's at least a 3 1/2 hour drive each way! Did go to Penmon once, though, but all I can remember is the cold and the wind and a rather bleak stretch of beach with a distant bird....!

I was always taught not to drop litter anywhere...if only everyone had the same attitude as us Lionel the hills would benefit....hills are magical places and deserve respect

[B]We were taught the same as you Annie, never to leave litter anywhere and Mum often took plastic bags in her pockets as inevitably we would find litter wherever we went. People used to dump all their rubbish in the woods near our house so we had to do a massive clean up operation; Mum, my 3 sisters and I, oh and Dad was probably there too. It was quite gross but we managed the filth and left it all by the roadside ... thank Goodness the dustbin lorry came and picked it all up.

Once we had to clear the Orrin river which is near Mum and Dad's as people had dumped all sorts of rubbish in the river - it's disgusting. People are so foul. There are bins most places and if there aren't why they can't take it with them in their car and wait til they find one.... and people who throw all their cigarette butts out of their car windows near our woods are so gross - they should have a whole load of cigarette ends dropped in their garden - that would teach them a lesson!

So many people have no respect for the countryside which is sad. sad.gif dry.gif mad.gif

Respect to all those of us who do respect our hills, mountains and countryside.

Got an RV with an old Aberdeenshire buddy on Clachnaben, a lower hill with a stunning granite tor on its summit, this Sunday.
Nothing more than 2-3 hours as its a "cobweb-loser" of a day but we get the bonus of a visit to the grand Charr bothy in Glen Dye.

Just back from Clachnaben - grand wee walk to lose yesterdays beer !! tongue.gif
It certainly has warmed up and the snow has taken a big shift off the Cairngorms and Lochnagar. I was walking in a t-shirt today - something I wouldn't have even contemplated yesterday when the temperature on my car read -7 !!
