Had a day trip to Anglesey yesterday - being birders we went to look for a rare vagrant from the US which has turned up at Red Wharf Bay (and yes, we did see it otherwise I'd be away sulking somewhere and wouldn't be sharing this!

). It was a beautiful day: bright and sunny, a bit cold, but no wind. We walked about half a mile or so at the landward side of the saltmarsh to where the bird has taken up temporary residence and after having had several good but brief views of the bird over a couple of hours, we went to Beaumaris to find a celebratory lunch and play tourist. Beaumaris is a lovely little town with an ancient castle, overlooking the north-eastern end of the Menai Strait and across to Snowdonia. Not somewhere you would find by accident as it is off the main road but very well worth making a detour to visit. (I can recommend the Pier House Cafe!) I have put some of my photos here:

On the subject of litter on mountains - and at all beauty spots for that matter - if someone can take it out full, I fail to see why they cannot then carry it back empty - especially as it will proably screw up or squash!

I recall several years ago when I climbed Croagh Patrick in Ireland (to see the view from the top which was in the cloud by the time I made it!!) being horrified by the trail of litter marking the final scramble to the summit. Someone had told me I'd have no trouble finding the way as all I had to do was follow the trail of Fanta cans ... I thought they were joking.

And this being Ireland's 'Holy Mountain' of pilgrimage, too. You'd think they'd show a little more respect!
