Hi Lionel
Sorry to hear about your sciatica. I hope you will recover quickly. I know when I can't get out to the hills for a while I feel terrible so I appreciate how you must feel!

I love the cairngorms and am hoping to get some walking there this year again. Just love those wide open spaces!

Wishing you a speedy recovery!

Cheers
Sheila

Sheila,

Thank you for your kind wishes. Indeed I hope to recover soon as I feel very frustrated not to be able to go hillwalking or ski-moutaineering.

If you go hillwalking to the Cairngorms, don't forget to take plenty pictures to post here. Looking forward to reading about your walks to come.

Cheers,

Lionel

Here's todays pictures from a jaunt up Glenshee over three Munros and a couple of Tops !
The weather was stunning today and I only hope - God please - that we get similar weather to this on the Ben Lomond meet as it would be ideal. No wind, glorious sunshine and very little snow to hamper progress.

Lionel my buddy ! tongue.gif Take a close look at some of these pictures and you will notice that this is, in fact, one of Scotlands top ski resorts in mid-winter !! ohmy.gif
I'm afraid ski-ing is practically non-existent in Scotland these days !
Some of the mountains holding snow in the distance are the highest in Scotland - Ben Macdui, Cairn Toul and Braeriach - all part of the Cairngorm massif.

That is not me para-gliding though folks ! laugh.gif The chap was about to take off the Cairnwell as we were leaving the summit !

Hi

Today I climbed Beinn Each, a corbett, 811m, above Strathayre in the Trossachs area. It was mild for January, more like March although cold on the top. The top was in cloud at first with the sun almost burning through so there were some amazing Brockan Spectres on and off for about 20mins. I waited as long as I could at the top to try and get a good view but eventually the cold got to me! It cleared on the way down...Typical! When I got back to the car I met a guy who had left the road just before me and had run up the hill and over 2 munros and back in the same time! ohmy.gif Now that's fit! But maybe he didn't get a Brockan Spectre and maybe he didn't see the red deer, buzzards and dippers that I saw smile.gif

Then as I arrived home there was an amazing moon rising above the water. Great end to a fab day! cool.gif

Photos Here

Cheers
Sheila

PS Hope you are feeling better, Lionel smile.gif

Hi Greig

You must've been loading your pictures at the same time as me on Photobox! That's why it was so slow!!!

Great pictures. Looks like you got a bit more sun than I did. Did you see any white hares or ptarmigan? There were loads when I was last on Aosda.

Can't believe the weather we're getting! Hope the rest of the year is as good!

See you

Sheila

Don't mention white hares to me Sheila ! laugh.gif My arm is lucky still to be in it's socket after Storm near hauled it out attempting to chase them. There were hundreds of them all over the south side of the Cairnwell as well as the outlying top of Carn Binnien above Glen Taitneach !

Good shots from Each. We climbed it about 3 years ago exactly the same weekend as this ! The only difference was the weather - it was plotting ! I remember it being 15 degrees on the car on the way home ohmy.gif

Some winter eh ? wink.gif

Hi Jacqui

Yes - it is looking to Glas Maol. Hardly enough snow on it today to make a snowball ! laugh.gif

I need the hills

Not a hill walk, just a walk----cool.gif

Just back from a bracing stroll (or gallop) along the riverbank, perished despite wooly hat, gloves and michelin-man anorak. Wind chill factor Edinburgh would be proud of.
Even the ducks didn't know whether to go in the water, or hop up and down on the freezing stones!

Hi Rig

Thanks for sharing your pictures! I can't get the first one to load but the other two are fantastic! Which river is it? Beautiful sunset...maybe we should have a posting just for sunsets and sunrises smile.gif

Cheers
Sheila

Oh well, 2 out of three is not bad for a first time - I will try to edit.
And it's the Rhine.
(As it's a BIG river, with shores, waves etc, it keeps me going till I get back to my beloved Scottish seas again! - see my other albums on site under my sig.)

Your pictures on your other albums are great! I spent many happy holidays as a youngster at Aultbea and hours and hours playing at Mellon Udrigle - still one of my favourite places. It was lovely to see it again. Doesn't really seem to have changed all that much now from the 60's when we used to go. My dad would leave mum and me and my brother at the beach while he went off fishing all day.... those were great happy days and I suppose that's where I first started to love the west highlands.

Thanks for those!

Cheers
Sheila

Lovely pics, everybody!

Whitts: does your little dog walk the full distances with you or is he carried sometimes? Don't tell me - he started life as a Great Dane and you've worn his legs down to Terrier-size! ohmy.gif wink.gif

Sheia: I've not heard of Brockan Spectres before - amazing pics.

And Rig: love your third pic of the cold-looking sunset - beautiful!
