we are going near Skipton on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales.... I've not done any walking since Skye so it will be hard going but I'm looking forward to it.

Managed to get away today but only breifly !! Underfoot conditions were horrendous, with some drifts 10-12 feet deep in places !! ohmy.gif

Well the first walk of the new year has been done, we did 12miles in total. Legs are a bit stiff tonight but it was well worth it. My friend Picked up at 9.20 this morning and dropped me off at 5.40 tonight.

Well done Celtman ! Keep training and walking as much as you can. Very healthy and good to remain in good spirits.

Congratulations,

Lionel

Today I was in the border hills, climbing Culter Fell and Chapelgill Hill. Started off in sunshine, cloud on Culter then cleared into a beautiful day, still a bit of snow left up there but it's clearing pretty fast. Spring is here at last --"the rise of larksong fills the morning" The skylarks certainly were giving it laldy! Fantastic! cool.gif

Spent the weekend birding on the North Norfolk coast - no hills there, then!

Spring weather at long last - windy, but for the first time this year we didn't need gloves or woolly hats. smile.gif And, yes - singing Skylarks, Hares bounding around in the fields and ...er... "piggy-back" toads(!) crawling across the paths at Titchwell nature reserve.

Will try to put some photos up later, when I've sorted them out.

Hi

Managed to get out in the Angus hills on Sunday 26th. Really low cloud - so we aimed for Loch Brandy, Glen Clova.

Snow thigh deep in places and we didn't make the circuit round the corrie at the top as the visability was going fast - as the photos show. So had a wee drive up to Glen Doll after then back down to the Clova hotel for some Sticky Toffee pudding - mmmmmmm!

Saw 2 red squirrels as well! FANTASTIC!!!!!

This was a snowy, windy, frozen Loch Brandy...getting misiter by the second..

Thanks for the photos Jacqui - looks like there's still a fair bit of snow then, although I suspect it's clearing a bit after all the rain today and the milder weather. Photo 12 is amazing with that black line of cloud - it's like that film...Deep Impact I think it was called!

Cheers
Sheila

Well done Jacqui, Puffin and Sheila !!! And thanks for the great pictures.

Still trying to recover from my sciatica, I had two walks, one on Sunday and the second one on Monday.

On Sunday, with my friends Dominique and Alain and my nephew Florian, we had a hillwalk with snowshoes near the ski resort of La Clusaz. We climbed 300 meters of altitude on the Combe de Borderan (from altitude 1300 to 1600).

On Monday, I went to visit my Scottish friends Angie and Alistair in Megève. They are spending a week holiday there. As I can't ski this year because of my sciatica, we took a three hour walk above the ski resort of Megeve. We climbed up to le Mont du Villard to enjoy the Megeve scenery facing the Mont Blanc range.

After the walk we sat on the terrace of a brasserie and enjoyed a huge plate of Savoy delicatessen and cheeses and drunk a nice Savoy Gamay red wine. That was a great day and I was very happy to see my Scottish friends again. I hadn't seen them for two years.

Two days to recover and be back to good spirits.
