Hi Annie,

15 miles is a good long walk !  Thanks for sharing your pictures. I like the shapes of those hills, very different from my native Alps.

It seems that there are not many hillwalkers on the Welsh hills... though the weather  was quite good.

Greetings from the Alps,

Lionel

Hi Lionel

It was good to do a long walk....even though the sun was out , there weren't many people about where I was smile.gif .

Love your photos smile.gif

Well, the weather was better than the forecast for Ben Wyvis and we had a good "warm-up". I'd not been up Wyvis for 22 years and in that time, a new path has been engineered, removing the previous quagmire approach.

We left Garve in the rain on the Friday morning and arrived at Kinlochewe to climb Slioch with the sky brightening. We did a big circular walk os Slioch, avoiding paths, intentionally, and bridges, unintentionally, and didn't see a soul until we were just short of the summit. By this time, the sun was out, the air was clear and the views of Ben Eighe and Loch Maree magnificent.

The drive through Torridon to Loch Carron via Shieldaig was absolutely gorgeous, Ben Alligin stealing the honours as the sun got low in the sky.

On Saturday, we did 3 remote Munros south of Strath Carron, inlcuding Maoile Lunndaidh, just over 20 miles and about 6000 feet of ascent. The odd snow flurry added to a superb day, again with crystal clear air.

On day, I'll get a slide scanner and share some pictures with you.

To those going to Kinlochleven next month, enjoy yourself. I'm already occupied that weekend but I hope to return to future riggie hillwalks.

Hi Lancs Dave,

I hope this day is not too far as I am looking forward to watching your pictures.

The only time I tried to climb Ben Wyvis, we were blown away by some kind of blizzard. So I didn't get to the top ! dry.gif I hope to get another opportunity sooner or later.

Slioch is a must of the Scottish hills !!! smile.gif

Thanks for sharing your walks ! Greetings from France,

Lionel

Well, Jacqui and I had our hillwalk on Monday, but we didn't get up Sgor Gaoithe as planned. The weather was pretty awful and the hills were all covered in mist so we decided to do 2 munros near Blair Atholl and save Sgor Gaoithe for a better day in orde rto get the view. We went up Carn Liath and Braigh Coire Chruinn-bhalgain in the Beinn a'Ghlo range. NIce hills, just a pity about the lack of views. But we saw loads of wildlife and not another person on the hills. We saw grouse, curlews, lapwings, ptarmigan, wheatears, red deer and then roe deer near Loch Rannoch on the drive back.

We had plenty chocolate to keep us going and we had a good time despite the mist.

I only took a couple of shots but looking forward to seeing yours, Jacqui when you get back from your holiday. Here's mine meanwhile. Click to enlarge:

Shame about the weather Sheila...at least you managed to get up some hills smile.gif .....let's hope the weather will be kinder to us in Kinlochleven smile.gif

Sheila,

Thanks for sharing your pictures. But well done for the Munros despite the poor weather ! At least you saw lots of animals, it's always a pleasure when hillwalking in Scotland.

Greetings from the Alps,

Lionel

Too late in the day...thick mist...bit cold and wet...needing a beer....what other excuses can I come up with??? Jacqui might regret it when it's the only munro she has left to do! laugh.gif

Don't know, Whittsy - what did happen to Carn nan Gabhar? As far as I know, nothing has happened to it this millennium!

jacqui- 05-20-2006
Well, what can I say?!!

Sheila - THANK YOU for a really fantastic day!Wonderful to get to meet you properly rather than a quick phone call or a brief hello! Great to get to chat for hours!!! I couldn't have done those hills in that weather without you. I trust you to navigate me anywhere! biggrin.gif And as for not doing Carn nan Gabhar - well, I'll make sure you do it with me when I get round to it! biggrin.gif tongue.gif

Whitts - the reason we didn't do Carn nan Gabhar.... we heard that there was a few beers chilling and a nice wee table next to the roaring fire in the Bothy Bar in the Atholl Arms Hotel! tongue.gif

My photos from Beinn A'Ghlo HERE. The dodgy headgear worn by me is Tiz's hill bandana - it did 3 Munros this week!

On Friday we were so lucky. The weather cleared and I got up Schiehallion as planned. Fantastic day. Even then only 1 other person on the top. Sheila, I even managed to get a view of Beinn A'Ghlo so at least I know what it looks like biggrin.gif ! Weird going up the new path. Very easy on the knees on the way down though.

My photos from Schiehallion HERE

Hi Jacqui

Great photos! Wee Loch Moraig looks great - remember the deer wading through it? Just as well we didn't do Carn nan Gabhar as well, I was almost asleep at the wheel on the last few miles to home! I made it into work in time on Tuesday but then slept in every other day and really badly on Friday! ohmy.gif

It was really good to spend the day with you and it was a brilliant end to my holidays. Brought my total number of hills for the 2 weeks to 4 munros and 7 corbetts. I'm happy with that! I'm supposed to be walking up something on Monday (public holiday for us) but the forecast is for whiteout conditions ohmy.gif so we may not go.

Schiehallion looks brilliant - glad you got the views this time. Thanks for putting on the route of the new path - it sounds pretty good. Nice to meet David and Conor too - hope the journey home was trouble free wink.gif

Roll on Beinn a' Bhetheir - Tiz might get fed up of us yapping..... laugh.gif

Cheers

The journey home - well, C had been sick all over the car before we got to Pitlochry! ohmy.gif So I think that was about the same as being sick before Berwick on the way up! The joys of car journeys with kids! Must find some car sickness stuff for him or just dangle a carrier bag off his ears! laugh.gif

Us yapping??? Never! laugh.gif
