Had an early start this morning to go up into the hills of Mid Wales again (had to get back for the England v NZ match

) after the excesses of celebrating drawing with the Wallabies yesterday I could've done with a lie in but decided life is too short to waste a day in the hills

...just need plenty of water to stop dehydration
Went up Y Gamriw and over Abergwesyn Common and got back in time for some food to line the stomach before enjoying a few bottles of Fraoch whilst watching the rugby...brilliant day

Hi Annie and Jacqui !!!
It's always a pleasure to watch our hillwalks photos.
Jacqui, is your husband now a Munro bagger ?
Hi Usgael,
Please post more pictures of your walks.
Greetings from the French Alps in very cold temperatures,

Don't know about that! He's done 5 now. Think its growing on him.

Lionel, thanks for the interest. This is Mount Evans, the mountain we drove up in early September. At this small lake, called Summit Lake the elevation is around 11,500 to 12,000 ft. I'm sorry I don't have the conversion formula to meters at the moment.

This is Summit Lake from the top of the mountain.

These are some mountain goats that were sunning themselves on a ledge. It was an unusually clear day for this time of year, and no wind.

This is a view of the top of the mountain. The ruins are an old coffeeshop that burned down and was never rebuilt. The road, parking lot and facilities have been upgraded in recent years to maintain the observatory. It is currently the highest observatory in the world.
Been up Pen-y-Fan today

...needed to blow the cobwebs away after the All Blacks match yesterday

....we did a new route which we learnt about from one of our mates who is in the local mountain rescue team. Started from Cwm Gwdi and then instead of following the normal path straight up to Pen-y-Fan we skirted around Allt Ddu and went up the re-entrant to the saddle between Cribyn and Pen-y-Fan...then back down Cefn Cwm Llwch. The weather was dry but pretty windy on the top and the hills were verrrrrry wet underfoot ...thank heavens for gaiters...(even if I do hate wearing them)
Next weekend I'm off to Snowdonia to do some scrambling...weather permitting...so watch this space
Photos from today's walk on the following link
http://s25.photobucket.com/albums/c92/anni...n%20nov%202006/ Just returned from a brilliant weekend in North Wales. We managed to climb/scramble up the North ridge of Tryfan despite the weather throwing everything at us quite literally...we had rain, snow, hail and strong winds but we were determined to make it. The hail really stung as it was blown onto our faces too...ouch!! Needless to say the rain/hail/snow made the rocks quite slippery so that made it hard going. When we got to the top there was one huge gust of wind which literally blew me off my feet and before I knew it I was sitting in a puddle....one way of finding out your waterproof trousers are really waterproof!!!!!
We had hoped to carry on and do Bristley Ridge as well but we decided the weather was just too bad so it was back to Betws-y-Coed for a well deserved hot chocolate and a spending spree in all those walking shops

Tryfan is a fun mountain, one of those that is never the same (I can never find the same way up each time!), and it always throws some interesting surprises at you! Looks like you had fun, Annie.
I was there last summer, we went up to polish our rope work and things before we went to Mt Blanc. Hilary used it as a -*test*-('") mountain for their oxygen system and other equipment before their Everest expedition.
Great mountain, great fun, great pics! Glad you had a good time!
Fantastic photos Annie! It looked like a challenge without the bad weather, and a memorable day.
Onward and upward!
Managed to get a short walk done yesterday up Fan Dringarth in the Brecon Beacons....just like last week we had to contend with rain, hail and snow

...but the alternative was Christmas shopping so not that bad

...no photos sadly the weather really wasn't up to it
Hi Lionel
Your photos are fantastic....sounds like a great holiday

Hi Annie,
Yes indeed, I had a great holiday. The weather was really nice, not too hot and very sunny. It was very good to start winter.
I stayed 16 days in Egypt where I visited all my former colleagues and pupils and also my friends. And I spoke Arabic all the time... which was very good to brush up my conversational Egyptian Arabic.
There is a lot of hillwalking and desert walking to be done in Egypt. I should go back there as soon as possible to do some more.... maybe some time in 2007.
Greetings from the Alps,
Lionel
