Great picture Alun ! It really looks like a volcano. And thank you for the reference. That's a hill I would like to climb one day. cool.gif

Lionel it can be a nice walk but also ca be very busy as the path up is very wide and lots of people can be on the mountain at one time its only 886m high tho it does have a drop of around 400m or so off the north face and that ca be spectacular veiwing at times.when i sort out my pics properly and work photobucket i will sort them out.tho i prefer Eryri or in English Snowdonia now as i learnt to drive and have been up there twice Cader Idris is fantastic and further up when i climbed the Glyders and u see all the rocky pinackles on the summit and the canteleaver stone and then the rocky pinnacle called Castell y Gwynt (Castle of the Wind) that is truly amazing then you have the views accross to Tryfan next door then behind you have the Carneddau which has the 3rd and 4th highest mountains in Wales, and if you look in the other direction you have Crib Goch which is as i afraid of hights simply awesome (that was the eddited version)then Garnedd Ugain 2nd highest in Wales which leads onto Yr Wyddfa or in English Snowdon the views are simply awesome, tho to some not as spectacular as in Scotland or maybe your Alps but as a Welshman i cant think of a btter place to be maybe i am biased lol

Well Christmas morning we walked up Pen-y-Fan ...not the best of weather a lot of mist but never mind...quite a bit of ice on the ground too so had to be careful. When we got to the top we had Gaelic coffees which were divine biggrin.gif but with the gale force winds which were bitter cold it didn't stay hot for very long biggrin.gif . Met one bloke up there who had driven up from Portsmouth that morning just to climb to the top and was then driving back straightaway . A quick descent down then to get back and cook the Christmas dinner and boy did it taste good laugh.gif

Yesterday then we headed off into the Carmarthen Fans for the day for an 11 mile hike...up to the highest point Fan Brycheiniog and around the ridge to drop down to Llyn y Fan Fach and had lunch in the shelter down there before heading back to the pub for a well deserved pint (or two biggrin.gif ) Photos aren't brilliant as the weather was a bit misty again but they can be found on the link below.

It looks as if my days in the hills are over. The knee injury I sustained at work has flared up yet again and I'm having trouble walking. The doctor has told me that now the ligaments have been damaged I'm always going to have a problem with them. It could also see the end of my career though I would be redeployed into a desk job stuck behind a computer 24/7 sad.gif

Thanks for the reports.

Since I finished the Munros back in August, I have only had two days on hill, mainly due to the new arrival and work so I was really looking forward to my Christmas break of 17 days to get going on the hill again. That was until I slipped on the neighbours driveway and tore ligaments in my ankle a week past Saturday.
No hillwalking or football for six weeks !! rolleyes.gif mad.gif

Some really stunning images in this thread, I'm inspired to get out on foot on my days off next week. I've been more inclined to take the mountain bike out of late but having looked at all these fantastic views I think I need to broaden my horizons. Mind you, that's not the only thing that's been broadening this last week or so!

Here are some pictures of my today hillwalk with snowshoes.

I was with my nephew and we left from our village at the altitude of 900 m (3000 feet) to climb to Outanne where we own a chalet and a summer alpage (pasture for our cattle). Two mountains overlook our chalet, the pointe du Lavanchy - Peak of the Avalanche - (1500 m - 4545 feet) and the pointe du Rocher Blanc - peak of the White Rock - culminating above 1600 m - 4848 feet. When we started walking we enjoyed a bright interval but then when we reached Outanne, it started snowing again and it keeps snowing heavily here tonight. We enjoyed walking with our snowshoes... but soon when the snow is deeper I should climb again with skis and skins. We had a great time and we are glad that, at last, snow arrived on the Alps.

I hope you enjoy these pictures. All of them are on the link below and you can watch them as a slideshow.

Great photos Lionel biggrin.gif ...hoping to do some walking this weekend but doubt if there will be any snow here ...it doesn't seem to be lasting long on the hills around here wink.gif

Hi Jacqui and Annie,

Thank you very much for your appreciations... I wish I could send you some snow before it melts. laugh.gif

Here is another album to view : that's my today walk in the mountains above my village. The name of the hill is "le Rocher Brűlé" which means " Burnt rock". There was fresh snow from last night and walking with snowshoes was very pleasant. In the end, there was a beautiful sunset over Mount Forchat. I hope you enjoy those pictures.
