Having been grounded by my dodgy ankle over all of the festivities, I decided to give it a go today over a familiar route in Aberdeenshire.
Although Clachnaben stands below 2000 feet in height, there is an excellent 12km route over its summit tor, Hill of Endocher and descent to the MBA mantained bothy at Charr before a nice walk out along Glen Dye. This was ideal for me as I had no idea whether or not my ankle would hold out so I had many options to cut the walk short during the circuit.
The good news was I had little problem apart from a niggle or two on the descent to Charr and I managed to complete the whole 12km - thank God - Jacqui says I've had cabin fever since the injury !
The day was beautiful to look at but the wind that blew from the north west over the summit of the Clach was incredible. By the time I returned to the car at Bridge of Dye, branch parts had fallen from the trees near to where my car was parked.
It certainly has been a storm-tossed start to 2007.

Aye John - who needs a tripod when tables are at hand ? tongue.gif

It was taken in Charr bothy, maintained by the same crowd as that one you were in en route to Coruisk - MBA !

Beautiful pictures Whitts !! I am surprised as there is no snow on the hills you climbed. What altitude are they ? I wish you a great hillwalking year !

Are you going to start the Munros for a second round ? Or climb the Corbetts ?

Greetings from France,

Lionel

Today I walked with my snowshoes up to the top of the Lavanchy Peak (1500 m). The total ascent is only 600 metres but the snow was wet and heavy. Unfortunately, my camera didn't work because of low batteries and I saw two "chamois" that I couldn't picture. Here are pictures of the Lavanchy Peak taken another day when snow was much better.

Do you often get this white stuff that we call snow in Wales ? Skiing on the Welsh hills should be nice.

As always Whitts, beautiful pictures despite the weather. I hope you have more luck for your next walk.

Of course the last picture with sunshine is even nicer.

Do you bagg Corbetts Whitts ? How many Corbetts are there to make a round ?

Greetings from the Alps,

Lionel

Hi Lionel

I've done a few Corbetts - 82 to be precise - but I'm not that desparate to climb them all....yet. I think there are 220 of them in total at the moment. There are a lot of individual peaks, unlike the Munros where you can bag multiple summits in a day, but they are becoming more popular as walkers finish the Munros.

Nothing quite as spectacular as your mountain region though Lionel ! laugh.gif
