Hi folks
Great to see all your photos, Lionel , Greig and others. I haven't had much time to be on the board recently so have got a bit of surfing to do to catch up with all your walking photos!

Good to see wee Monamenach again - I climbed that a couple of years ago with my brother on a cold spring day. You're ahead of me on the corbetts, Greig, by 30 or so. I agree they're a harder challenge! A lot more driving up and down will be required and my wee car is already nearly at 100,000 miles. Oh well, it's worth it. smile.gif

Yesterday I did a gentle coastal walk with a few pals from East Linton to Dunbar in East Lothian. It was a fantastic day - more like April than January. There's a few pics here:

Hope to get some hills soon!

Cheers
Sheila

Hi Sheila !

Beautiful pictures indeed. Is this place near your hometown ? Where is Dunbar ?

I wish you great walks for 2007 !

Greetings from France,

Lionel

Hi Lionel
Happy New Year to you! Dunbar is a 30min drive east from my home in Musselburgh. It's a nice town on the east coast, with beautiful red sandstone buildings everywhere and the cliffs and harbour are really lovely. Not much in the way of hills in this area apart from a few isolated little volcanic hills like North Berwick Law and Traprain Law which have the remains of iron age forts on them. The Bass Rock which you can see in one of the pictures marks where the North Sea becomes the River Forth.

So ends the geography lesson!

Good to know you're back walking again. Looking forward to more of your pictures!

Cheers
Sheila

Thank you Sheila for the Scottish geography lesson !! cool.gif

Here are some more pictures !

I took the pictures tonight from my village as I can see some peaks :

Dent d'Oche (2 222 metres) and Château d'Oche are the twin peaks,

Mont Forchat (1 539 metres) is the rounded mountain under the sunset.

We had a great sunset tonight !!

What a day did the walk from Cwm Gwadi up to Pen y Fan to Corn Du and back down to the car via the Llyn ( walk 5 I think in the trail mag )the only way I havent done Pen y Fan. It was really wild the wind going up the ridge hit me at about 600 mtrs and it was fantastic scary stuff really enjoyed it. On the summit tracker and me were blasted with real severe gusts like I have never experinced before. It was seat of pants job I was scared because me wee pooch had all four paws spread as wide as they would go but he loved it.

Fantastic day and I only did that hill because the road was shut going up to Waun Fach ..................................

Fantastic biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Tiz.....that's a great route up to the top of Pen-y-Fan...glad you survived it ...bet poor Tracker's ears were flapping a bit biggrin.gif

Hi Tiz,

Do you have more pictures of your walk ?

Today I walked from my village up to our chalet and Alpine land (Outannaz - 1400 m) then up to the Lavanchy mountain (1500 m), I went down to the Alpage des Boeufs (Oxen) and I climbed les Trois Bèques (the Three Peaks - about 1500 m). The weather was dry and mainly sunny with some mist on higher hills. I enjoyed a superb sunset as you can see on my pictures. All the snow that was still there a few days ago melted recently because of the mild weather we are having over here.

I also enjoyed great views over Mount Billiat (1901 m) that overlooks the Mountain of the Oxen. (pics n° 18, 19, 20, 22).

Yesterday we headed to the Black Mountains and walked up Waun Fach. For a change we had a dry day and I even needed to wear my sunglasses biggrin.gif . The going was pretty muddy on the way up to Castell Dinas and it was a case of two steps up and 3 steps back in some places. The tops of the hills are very peaty and the soil erosion up there is getting really bad due to the awful weather we have been having.

The gliders were out in force and had to keep an eye on them as one or two of them were getting a bit close ohmy.gif .

It was good to have a walk without having to put any waterproofs on for a change and even better when we went back to the Castle Inn for a pint of real ale afterwards laugh.gif

A few photos

Love the photos, Annie, especially the ones with the colour contrasts in the valleys and the beautiful light!

That should tempt Lionel! laugh.gif

OOOOOOOOOOO, cute dog!

Had a little wander up to the half way lochan today heading for CMD arete to blow away the cobwebs but decided against carrying on due to likelihood of more than the cobwebs being blown away. Ran most of the way back down, I'm going to suffer for that tomorrow but will have buns of steel!!!!!
Forecast is apparently worse for later in the week ohmy.gif

Waw ! Beautiful pictures Annie !

For sure I will fall in love with Wales. It started falling in love with your country when I saw the film "The Englishman who went up a hill but came down a mountain". Fantastic scenery and a really nice comedy.
