Well yesterday we headed into the Brecon Beacons as we'd had the first snowfall of the year....only a sprinkling though sadly. We started from Llanfrynach in sunshine and with blue skies above. As we climbed higher the wind started picking up and we were soon in the gale force winds that had been forecast. Certainly made the walk up interesting. Then the hail and snow showers started and then the blue sky appeared again.....typical Welsh weather laugh.gif Had a quick cuppa on the top and a game of snowballs before heading back down to see if we could beat the next weather front heading our way. Thankfully the wind was behind us going down so made the descent a bit quicker but we had more hail and snow showers to contend with as well.

A fantastic day in the hills biggrin.gif

Hi Annie, Alun,

Thanks for your la-*test*-('") posts and great pictures. Vive le Pays de Galles !!! wink.gif

Here are some pictures of my week-end on the hills :

Great walk on Sunday 21st January on the Graydon mountain (1800 m) at the foot of the fabulous Roc d'Enfer (Hell Rock - 2243 m). Ideal weather conditions (no wind, cold and fresh snow but not enough for ski mountaineering unfortunately). I didn't take my snow-shoes. That was only a winter hillwalk. Great views over the moutains of my region (the Chablais) freshly covered in snow. Still waiting for more snow in order to ski.

As it was such a fantastic day I decided to go for a quick yomp up Pen-y-Fan in the snow. It was certainly busy up there and very slippery underfoot. Sadly the batteries in my camera gave up on the way so not many photos wink.gif but the ones I did take can be found

HERE

Beautiful photos, Annie! smile.gif

Lovely day here, too (no snow, though!) - but I just went and played "tourist" in Gloucester, photographing the Cathedral, Docks etc. Will stick some of the pics on photbucket in due course...

Thanks for your photos Annie. At least it seems that I have a chance to see Wales under the sunshine when I go to visit your country.

Beautiful scenery indeed, especially Corn Ddu ! cool.gif

Greetings,

Lionel

Think I may have to stay off the hills this weekend, my knee has started clicking every time I bend it and I would hate it to give up the ghost in the middle of nowhere. sad.gif Doesn't hurt at all, just this bizarre click - is there a doctor in the house???? blink.gif

Bonjour à tous !

Today I went ski-mountaineering with my friends Dominique, Alain and Jean-François. We had a long and tiring ascent of the Pic de la Corne (Horn Peak). The total ascent was 1000 metres. The weather was very sunny with blue skies but the temperatures were quite cold (around minus 10°C). The descent to altitude 1600 was really good (powder snow) but under altitude 1500 there is still a lack of snow in the Alps... so it was quite rocky. However we had a great day today in the Alps.

Greetings from the Alps,

Lionel

Here is a picture of the Pic de la Corne (alt 2082 metres).

Aye it was the same when I was up there Alun ...squaddies everywhere ...think there must've been an SAS selection exercise up there tongue.gif

Well yesterday we headed into the Black Mountains we went up Rhos Dirion and over to Lord Hereford's Knob (and yes it is actually called that biggrin.gif ). It was another windy day, almost got blown off my feet a few times on the way down. Weather was a bit overcast so no photos this time. We bumped into some friends whilst we were walking so we all went back to the Castle Inn for a quick pint....brilliant laugh.gif

Annie !

No photos this time, what a pity !!! You should have taken a picture of the strong wind. tongue.gif

Waiting for your next pics Annie,

Greetings from the sunny Alps,

Lionel
