Well, this weekend was fantastic weather. I went to Pitlochry with a pal and on Saturday we had a great day for climbing wee Ben Vrackie (a corbett). Not too much snow but stunning views from the windy summit. Then some nice sunsets that night and a lovely day on Sunday when we walked round Bruar Falls and generally enjoyed the sunshine in bonnie Perthshire. A few pics are here

Beautiful pics Sheila! smile.gif Are the Falls of Bruar anywhere near that expensive shopping place with the very posh loos?

SheilaB- 01-29-2007
Thanks for your comments, folks

Lionel - no skis just walking poles this time! There was only about 200m of snow on the east slopes and it was very soft. Most of the snow had been blown from the summit and it was a wee bit icy there. Too cold to hang about for more than the time it took to take a few pics.

Puffin - yes, the walk round the falls is right beside the House of Bruar which does indeed have posh loos. It was mobbed so we decided to give it a miss - too nice a day for shopping anyway! But I've never seen as much water in the falls as on Sunday, there must have been a lot of snow melt coming down there. The noise was incredible.

Cheers

Sheila

Hi,

Did my first mountain in a few months this weekend just gone. Was in the Matesi Mountains which is the backbone of mountains running down Italy. I basically had 5 hours of snow/ice climbing in a pair of Rockports - mate had snow shoes on and poles, had crampons but I don't like them very much!

Anyway, got up to 1850m and had to stop, the snow was up to my thighs at several times during the walk/climb - was more challenging that the London Marathon. At th etop you can see both sides of Italy - awesome, pictures will follow this week when I've got the download!

Cheers Annie and Jacqui.

My knee was fine - hurray! But I took it pretty slow coming down, as I've lost confidance in the leg! That's the biggest hill I've managed since I did it in in October, so let's hope it won't give me anymore trouble! All I've got to do now is get the rest of me fit. laugh.gif

Lovely pics, Colin, especially the snow on the one side of the stacks.

But the walker's all-white outfit is maybe not such a good idea on snowy mountains....? unsure.gif
