Annie,

I hope you and all Riggies have a great time at the hillwalking meet.

I had a great afternoon ski-moutaineering today just between two snow storms.

Amazing photos, Annie smile.gif Weather and visibility look great for the time of year, too - although not so good as you were looking for snow, of course!
Not sure I like the look of that bridge (Steall) though! unsure.gif

anniebach- 02-26-2007
Thanks Puffin ...the visibility was fantastic...don't think I've ever known it that clear.

The Steall bridge is something I've wanted to do for ages but could never pluck up the courage ....can't understand why I made such a fuss about it now biggrin.gif laugh.gif

Been for a quick walk up Pen-y-Fan this morning to celebrate St David's Day tongue.gif ...don't think I've ever known it so windy up there...could hardly stand up on the top and my poor dog almost got blown away...needless to say we didn't stay up there long biggrin.gif laugh.gif

I had a fantastic day today on the hills, ski mountaineering up to the Col Ratti (1800 m) just at the foot of the spectacular Roc d'Enfer (Hell Rock - 2243 m). The snow was really good, hard packed with a thin soft layer at the surface. It was a pleasure walking uphill with skins and it was a greater pleasure skiing downhill in such an awesome scenery.

Puffin !

Yes indeed... but today the red helicopter was on a rescue mission to take an injured ski-mountaineer to hospital. However it's possible to hire a helicopter to fly over the Alps... but it's not cheap. Thank you for your nice comment.

Tiz !

You are right. I am so lucky to live in such a wonderful place of the Alps. I hope that one day you have a opportunity to come and visit the Alps of Haute Savoie. Your family and you are welcome.

Greetings to both of you,

Lionel

Thanks very much Annie. Please take some snow for Wales !!!

Some more pictures of my ski-mountaineering sunday on the hills. I did a late afternoon departure with my skis and skins from the resort of Hirmentaz (1200 m) just when the pistes were going to close. Soon, I was on my own and the whole ski area was completely silent. I skied up to the ridges of Hirmentaz (1600 m) and round along the ridges facing west. I had spectacular views of the highest hills of my region as far as Mont Blanc on the French Italian border. Then I enjoyed a wonderful burning sunset on the Jura range of mountains just before skiing down the Incarne piste on my own in the light of dusk. Great ski mountaineering day !

Great photos everyone! Looks like you had a busy time, Annie. The Steall bridge is great!

I was in Achiltibuie (north of Ullapool) last week. Only got one hill day - Cul Beag - a great corbett with brilliant but icy weather. The other days the weather was very changeable and stormy at times with quite a bit of snow on the mountains so we contented ourselves with low level walks. But all in all a great break away. Cheers
