Hi,

I'm in Oberammergau, so looks like the Bavarian Alps are calling me, have at least 2 walks/climbs planned and a cable car ride to the top of the Zugspitzer, 3 km up, yeeeeeeeeeha!

Another fantastic day ski mountaineering on the hills with my nephew Florian. We enjoyed sunshine, clear blue skies and a perfect powdery and light snow. We couldn't ask for more. We climbed up to the Alp of Pététoz (1519 m) at the foot of Roc d'Enfer (Hell rock - 2244 m) and the views were just breathtaking !!

Great photos Lionel smile.gif ....we went for a walk in the Brecon Beacons on Saturday with friends and then to the pub for a few beers afterwards and to watch the rugby....in hindsight we would've been better off staying in the hills for longer so we missed the rugby laugh.gif Need to get some longer hill days in before we go to Scotland at the end of the month so we can have a big day up there on the Saturday biggrin.gif

Hi,

Climbed Kofel in Oberammergau, didn't do Zugspitzer as they wanted 74 Euro so I've found a cheaper way and will do it wednesday! Have taken photos but they're on my phone so I'll wait until I return to Napoli before uploading them to my laptop and then on here!

Regards

Do any of you lot know any walking/hill walking forums that are specifically geared towards the UK? I've been having difficulty finding anything on the web of hills under 3000 feet (the only ones I can do).

For example both myself and Ozz have made two assults on the Ochils trying to do the tallest peak Ben Cleugh. First time we got totally lost and wound up on the wrong path (discovered after 2 hours walking with no option to cut onto right mountain).
The second time was yesterday and it looked promising until we hit around 1900 feet and were surrounded in cloud. We followed the path and reached a summit of some kind so we assumed that was it, especially when the ground started dipping on the other side of it. We could hardly see 10 foot in front of us so decided to get back down. However now I'm looking at the web I think we only managed to find the summit of "The Law" which is on the same ridge as Cleugh.

Can't help but think if I'd been more Cleughed up (sorry couldnt resist) then I might not be having to head back up a third time.

What's worse is that I ran away out the house with no memory card in my cam so I didn't take any pictures barring this one which I took when I got back! Damn I thought walking boots were meant to prevent this happening?! ohmy.gif

On a brighter note I really enjoyed the walk yesterday unlike Ben Ledi (first hill I did - hated every minute of it) and Ben Venue (second walk I did - hated approx 50% of the minutes I spent on it). I was given a pair of boots and bought a walking pole cheap. I sort of thought walking poles were only really for show but it was a big help and I managed to get up and down the hill without falling over (for once). rolleyes.gif Whole walk lasted only about 3 hours, if we'd made the summit of Cleugh it should have lasted 4 apparently.

We'll go back up at some point and remember to take pictures!

Hi Crunchie !!!

I hope you don't suffer much from your big blister !!! To avoid blisters, you should put TWO pairs of thin socks in your walking boots.

This is a walking / rambling UK forum for low level walks I think. You should try to subscribe and see if it's a nice forum. I think it's for the whole of the United Kingdom.

Don't forget to cure your blister, Crunchie.

Ah see I thought I'd be safe with one pair of big socks, i didnt even get a blister this bad when I walked up Ben Ledi wearing trainers that were falling to bits! I am already making plans to go back into the Ochils, hopefully on a nicer day when we can maybe do more than one hill. Thanks for the forum recommendation though, I will post photos when I get them!

Gorgious weather today so I thought that before going to teach this afternoon I should do some ski-mountaineering. And I was right as I had a great ride on the Col de la Golèse (1662 m) near the French-Swiss border. Again great weather and snow conditions and I was nearly on my own, enjoying the whole of the area. I was out of the hill at a quarter to five and at five o'clock I was teaching French to my Australian pupils. Life is great. smile.gif

Hi Annie,

And thanks for your pictures. They are really nice and it looks like you got a dry day !
Well done Annie... as 18 mile is quite a long walk.

Last Sunday, I went ski-mountaineering with an American friend, Patty. That was her first time to do ski-mountaineering, luckyly she is a very good skier, so she did very well. We climbed the Tete de Bostan, a mountain that is 2400 metres high. The total ascent was 1300 metres and it took us four hours to climb and one hour to ski down.
The weather was good, quite sunny, a bit cloudy sometimes, but not too cold. That was a great ski-tour.

My pictures are ...

HERE !

And some pictures here too :
