Lovely photos! smile.gif Was it not the Queens jubilee and they lit beacons all over the country? Would have maybe been 60 years. What's the row of rectangular buildings (far) below the top of the hill?

Think thats what it wouldve been. The rectangular buildings are warehouses I think but I'm not sure.

On Sunday I had an unexpected chance to grab a day in the hills with a friend so we headed for Glen Etive and climbed a cracking Corbett, Beinn Maol Chaluim, 907m. Spectacular day, sunny, cool breeze and amazing views all round. Not as much snow as I expected left on the tops and very soft at that. Still I managed to sink one leg up to my knee through snow into a burn! Brrrr...Would be the day I didn't bother with gaiters and left the spare socks in the car! ohmy.gif

Cheers
Sheila

Hi Sheila,

Thank you very much for sharing your nice pictures. What a great unexpected chance to spend a day on the hills. Hope you get more chances like that.

Greetings from the Alps,

On Sunday, my friends Dominique, Alain, Patty and I, we went ski-mountaineering in the mountain range of the Aravis near Annecy. The weather and snow conditions were really exceptional : bright blue skies, sunshine and a thick coat of powder snow. So far this winter, that was the best ski-mountaineering day we got !!

Oh well Ben Cleugh can laugh at us no more we finally (after two failed attempts) made it to the top today. Not that we could actually see anything when we got up there mind, the clouds were far too low. mad.gif Other than the mist it was a great day for hillwalking as there was no wind at all. I was walking up the hill in my T shirt and put my fleece on when we had lunch at the top. It's a nice easy walk Cleugh but then it's not even a Corbett. Managed to get away without even having blisters but then I was given a great pair of boots for Xmas and i wore two pairs of socks (thanks Lionel)!

The nice thing about the Ben Cleugh walk though is that for the first half 25mins your walking through a forest beside a stream coming down from the moutains so it's a lovely way to start a walk! smile.gif It took us a wee while as we were trying to take photos (and failing) so it was 2.5 hours to get to the summit and another 2 hours for coming back down.

And now, having had a long soak in the bath, I am going to order myself a curry and watch Scotland get humped off Italy. biggrin.gif

It looks nice there Celty. smile.gif We took advantage of this beautiful spring weather and went through to wander round the gardens at Brodie Castle. They have the biggest collection of daffodils anywhere. I was amazed at how many different daffies there are!! laugh.gif There was even an Invergordon one!! Looked a bit tough to me!! laugh.gif laugh.gif

Just back from sunning myself for 4 days at Arrochar, climbing Corbetts. I've, at long last, got a digi camera and when I find out how to get them on here, I will! If anybody has the Corbett Almanac, the climb over The Brack and Ben Donich is stated as 2800 feet of ascent. To my dismay, on Staurday, I discovered it should have said 3800 feet. That Cameron Macneish needs his ** kicking! More later.
