Well done Crunchie...great photos smile.gif Hope the ankle gets better soon, one of those ankle supports may be a good idea, I normally take my knee support with me when I walk just in case.

If you like scrambling the Cobbler is great ...it's only the very top that is really exposed....it was too windy for me to do the final bit when we were there a few weeks ago so will have to go back and do it again biggrin.gif

We were actually saying that Wednesday would have been a fine day for the Cobbler as there was no wind. Hopefully we'll get up it soon as I do like the scrambling a lot! biggrin.gif

On Thursday SheilaB, Tiz and myself had a fantastic day walking in Glen Lyon.

We did the circuit of 4 Munros starting with Carn Gorm then Meall Garbh followed by Carn Mairg and finally Meall nan Aighean. It was an ascent of 1485m and 17.5km. Fantastic weather. Glorious sunshine all day with brilliant visibility all round. Stunning views to the Lawers group and across Rannoch Moor to Ben Nevis. Can't believe we forgot the sun screen.

Thanks so much to Sheila & Tiz for another brilliant day in the hills! And thanks for the fish and chips, Green and Blacks and box of chocolates and all the beers. Can't wait for the next hill day!

Sounds fantastic, rod, and quite a challenge. How long are you planning to take, and how much each day? Is there a group of you?

Sorry I haven't replied earlier, been away until yesterday, some of it "training walking"!
I'm going on my own, that is an important part of it, a time of reflection etc.
I am taking 30 days, walking for 27,with an extra days "break" in Melrose, Rowardennan and Oban.
The "breaks" are because I want to explore around the Eildon Hills, have some time on my favourite Loch Lomond and a day around Oban area too. I must admit, i could do it quicker, but I am taking three walking days up the WHW on Loch Lomond, just because I love it up there.
The whole idea is to travel between St. Aidan's destinations, something i have wanted to do since i was in my teens, and here i am going to do it just before my 60th!!
(I think that the "strangest" part of the whole journey is going to be walking along the end of the road I used to live on in Kirkintilloch, haven't been there for nearly 40 years.)

Its old metal fence posts. The remains of the fence can still be seen in places and though not pretty is a good guide if the visibility is bad.

scrambling is fantastic.

ohmy.gif Oh no it isn't!!!!

Crunchie, well done on your first Munro!

I've really badly damaged the ligaments in my ankle twice now (not on a hill though) and the main thing to do is strengthen the ankle. Will try to find the exercise for you somewhere that my physio told me to do. My walking boots are high enough up and give my ankle some protection. The physio also said not to wear an ankle support whilst walking but perhaps take one incase I twist it and then bandage it.

Just had a fantastic weekend up in North Wales walking. Went up early Saturday morning and pitched the tent in Betws-y-Coed before heading out to climb Moel Siabod. The weather was great and the sunscreen was needed (can't remember the last time I've needed sunscreen on in North Wales biggrin.gif ). Had a quick stop at the local shop to get some carrot cake which had been highly recommended by Big Colin.....thanks for that mate it tasted wonderful too biggrin.gif

Great walk and the views of the rest of Snowdonia are quite spectacular from the top.....it was a bit hazy though.Plenty of scrambling if you want to but it can be avoided. As usual we went up the hardest route and hardly saw a soul until we got to the top. We were sitting there enjoying the carrot cake and coffee when a party of people arrived and one of them started playing the bagpipes !!!! Really strange to hear Welsh hymns being played on bagpipes.

It was back to the campsite then for a well earned shower then out to the pub for a pint or two of the local brew and very nice veggie curry biggrin.gif

The weather forecast was rain overnight but thankfully it was wrong. The morning started well so we headed off to the Glyders. The weather stayed fine and clear as we headed up Devils's Kitchen but the cloud and mist started coming in as we were close to the top and the wind picked up quite a lot as well. We got to the top of Glyder Fawr but decided that we would cut our losses and head back down the same way as it was a white out on the top and there was no way I was standing on the Cantilever Stone in that wind biggrin.gif .....we'll be back up there in May so will save it for then when hopefully we will be able to do the whole ridge doing Tryfan, Bristley Ridge and the Glyders.

Hi Annie,

Thanks very much for sharing your pics of North Wales. The place is now familiar to me, which is great. It's a pity you didn't get sunshine on the Glyders... as they are really beautiful. I hope next time you need sunscreen !! Snowdonia is really a great place to hillwalk. I hope to be back there one day.

Greetings from the Alps,

Lionel
