I really must learn to look at potential walks in terms of distance walked rather than height of hill. As I was working this morning but had the afternoon free I thought a nice little Corbett should be OK and Benvane next to Ben Ledi seemed a good choice and not far from home.
After 3 hours of squelching up mud and peat with streams running down the paths the cloud suddenly cleared and we could see the summit....
.... it was at least another hours walk away.
This was at 4.15pm so as you can imagine we were reluctant to go on given we didn't know any route back other than the one we'd come up. Called it a day then and headed back down as did not fancy being out til dark (creepy hill - not a single other person was seen the entire day).
Wasn't a very difficult climb aside from the boggy bits but heck I'm not up to walking for 2.5 hours before reaching the blasted hill! It would probably have actually been easier going up Ben Ledi first and following the ridge that links it to Benvane! Added to that it was very windy, creepy and cold. The ridge between Ledi and vane is apparently called "the pass of the dead bodies".
I'll try it again on a better day and when I remember to put 5 pairs of socks and three fleece jackets on.
