Calling all computer whizz kids
I'm wanting to run an old DOS game using Windows Vista but I'm having trouble loading it up. I have just found out that Vista doesn't support DOS - can anybody please give me any advice? Is there any software that I can download that will allow me to run a DOS game? Any advice would be appreciated. Andy |

Hi Andy
VISTA is a ****. I have ended up partitioning hard drives and having XP and vista installed on the same machine, as certain programmes won't run under vista. I know these problems will get sorted out at some stage, but for now it was the only thing I could do for some businesses. If you need an XP CD let me know. All you need is your code of your old xp machine. Cheers Firemansam BIG Colin -------------------- A friend is someone who thinks you're a good egg, even though you're slighty cracked!!

Thanks Loth and firemansam I've only just got my first PC so I'm very new to all this. The Vista OS came with the package that I bought so firemansam, so I don't have any XP discs but I can borrow those from my dad. I also agree that these problems with Vista will be sorted out at some point - I suppose that there were problems with XP when it first came out.
It is possible to have two OSs loaded on the same computer? And XP is able to support DOS? I've downloaded DOSBox using Loth's link (thanks for that) and tried running the game, but it comes up with an error message that says: Cannot find a CD-ROM drive, install must be run from the game CD. I'm guessing that this means that DOSBox has a compatibility problem with Vista, and another thing is that I DO have a CD-ROM drive - it says so in my hardware list!! Any thoughts on why it might be coming up with this error message? Thanks guys A This post has been edited by Andy_S on August 06, 2007 03:20 pm |

That's done it, NoClockThing!! I was making the mistake of not specifically mounting the CD-ROM drive. Thank you very much for your help and thanks again to Loth and firemansam - your help was invaluable too.
